Roy E. Davis VFW Post 2375 Invites Area Students and Educators to Participate in National Scholarship and Teacher Recognition Programs
Kingsville, Texas – August 20, 2026 – Roy E. Davis VFW Post 2375 invites students, educators, families and schools throughout Kleberg County and surrounding communities to participate in the VFW’s annual Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contests and the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year Awards.
The 2026–2027 theme for both student contests is “What a Veteran Taught Me About America.” These programs encourage young people to reflect on Veterans’ service, sacrifice, and the values that shape our nation. The Patriot’s Pen contest is open to students in grades 6–8. Participants submit an original 300 to 400-word essay based on this year’s theme. The Voice of Democracy program is open to students in grades 9–12. Students submit a recorded audio essay addressing the same theme. Both programs offer recognition and scholarship opportunities at the Post, District, State, and National levels. Entries and completed entry forms must be submitted to a participating local VFW Post by midnight, October 31, 2026.
VFW Post 2375 is also seeking nominations for outstanding educators through the VFW Teacher of the Year Awards. Certified or licensed teachers in elementary school (K–5), middle school (6–8) and high school (9–12) may be nominated for their efforts to promote citizenship, patriotism, democratic values, flag etiquette, community service and appreciation for America’s Veterans. Nominations may be submitted by students, parents, fellow educators, school administrators, family members, or other community members. Teacher nomination packets must be received by the Post Commander or Post Adjutant by October 31, 2026.
“The future of our nation is written by its students and inspired by its teachers. Step forward, share your voice, and be recognized through the VFW Education Awards as we honor the values our Veterans have defended for generations.” – VFW Post 2375 Adjutant/Quartermaster Apolonio E. Muñoz III
The Membership of the Roy E. Davis VFW Post 2375 encourages local schools to share these opportunities with eligible students and teachers.
